Pollution 

Harmful chemicals and greenhouse gases are released from rubbish in landfill sites. Recycling helps to reduce pollutions caused by waste, preventing methane gas from being released into the earth's atmosphere as well as the need for less raw materials. 

AB341 mandatory recycle law 

Commercial businesses and multifamily residences (5 or more units) that generate four cubic yards or more of solid waste per week are required by California state law to recycle.

Interesting recycle facts

Recycling 1 ton of cardboard saves 46 gallons of oil.

It takes 24 trees to make 1 ton of news paper. 

​

Paper recycling was first recorded in 1031, when Japanese shops sold repulped paper.

​

The first book printed on recycled paper was published in London in 1801.

​

14 billion pounds of garbage are dumped into the ocean every year, most of it is plastic.

The environmental protection agency says that recycling one ton of paper saves 7k gallons of water, 3 cubic yards landfill space, 2 barrels of oil and 4,100 kilowatt hours of electricity - enough energy to power a house for a month.

Americans throw away 2.5 million plastic bottles per hour. Each plastic bottle takes up to 500 years to decompose.

Recycling creates 7-10 more jobs than landfills.

A billion trees are thrown out each year in paper waste, recycling reduces the need for raw materials so that rainforests can be preserved.

Plastic bags thrown into the ocean kill over a million sea creatures each year. 

​

Enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the earth four times. 

​

If the U.S. can raise its 30% recycling rate to 75% it will be the CO2 equivalent of removing 50 million cars from the road.
